history

Morning Star Church began as a dream in the hearts of Josh and Cecil Wroten while they were still attending school at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Fl. In August of 2002, they moved from Jacksonville back to their native Bay Area to start Morning Star.

On October 9, 2002 the first official Bible study was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Newark. Twenty-nine peopled attended. Over the next five months, Pastor Josh began developing a core group that would help officially launch the church. On March 23, 2003 the Grand Opening Serviced for Morning Star Church was held at Musick Elementary School in Newark. One hundred and one people attended. For more than three years, Morning Star met at Musick Elementary School. Each Sunday over fifteen volunteers would arrive early to help setup and prepare for that Sunday’s worship service.

During this time the church slowly but steady grew to an average attendance of sixty-five. In an answer to prayer, God opened the door for our church to find a permanent home at 36120 Ruschin Drive in Newark, formerly known as Ruschin Elementary School. For the past two years, God has continually blessed Morning Star Church. We are excited about the future opportunities that lie ahead with our projected move to the Patterson Ranch Property. Our pray is that God will continually open doors of opportunity for us to love, strengthen, and minister to our community.

Morning Star Church is associated with Next Generation Churches, a fellowship of over 140 churches in Northern California. We have no denominational ties, but belong to this association for the purpose of advancing the mission of Jesus Christ.
